This series of Web pages is designed to inform users of the privileges they can expect to receive from the Duke University Medical Center Library (DUMCL). Below is an outline of the categories of eligible users.

Duke University Medical Center (DUMC) and Duke University (on- or off-campus)

  1. All faculty, students, and residents in the schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Allied Health.
    • Faculty must hold Duke faculty appointments at the level of adjunct faculty or higher or be appointed as preceptors in off-campus teaching sites. The DUMC schools and departments are responsible for identifying on an annual basis those off-campus individuals who have been given faculty and/or preceptor appointments.
    • Residents must be part of an official Duke University residency program.
    • Students must be currently enrolled in a formal Duke curriculum.
  2. Duke Affiliated Physicians (DUAPS) and DUMC/VAMC (VA Medical Center) joint appointments.
  3. DUMC employees and staff.
  4. Visiting faculty and graduate students on at least a two-week rotation.
  5. Duke University faculty, emeritus faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, staff and employees.

Duke University Health System (DUHS)

  1. Durham Regional Hospital (DRH) faculty and staff.
  2. Duke Health Raleigh Hospital faculty and staff.
  3. Triangle Area Hospice.

Area Universities

  1. All faculty, staff, and employees of North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University, and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
  2. All undergraduate and graduate students of North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University, and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

If you are faculty, staff, or a student from another college or university in the area, you are able to use the Duke University Medical Center Library services as a member of the general public.

Local Providers

  1. Research Triangle Park (RTP) employees involved in health or biomedical applications.
  2. VAMC staff without Duke appointments.
  3. Health professionals who live or work in Durham County and do not fit into any of the above categories.

Undersea Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS)

All Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society members are eligible for partial access to the Library services of the Duke University Medical Center Library (DUMCL).

General Public

Members from the general public, such as patients, alumni, and other university students, are welcome to come to the Duke University Medical Center Library and use our services.
