Borrowing Privileges

To borrow materials, users should bring:

  • a Duke picture ID (faculty, staff, employees) or
  • a Duke student ID (students)

If you are new to Duke, it may be several weeks before your record is entered into the patron database. Therefore, you may want to bring the following when you come to the Library to check out materials:

  • an official departmental list (faculty, preceptors, residents, etc.) citing the requester's name or
  • a letter, on Duke letterhead, from a Duke Medical Center or University department stating the person's status and the specified length of time they will be at Duke.

Circulation Policy

DUMC and most Duke University users may borrow an unlimited number of items. Duke undergraduates are limited to six (6) items. Users may renew items by calling the Library Service Desk at (919) 660-1100. An item is eligible for renewal based on the chart below and if no holds have been placed on it.
