MedEdPORTAL

MedEdPORTAL is a resource designed to help faculty publish and share educational resources. Publications include tutorials, virtual patients, cases, lab manuals, assessment instruments, faculty development materials, etc. which cover the continuum of medical education from undergraduate and graduate, to continuing medical education. MedEdPORTAL contains descriptive information about published resources and indicates how these materials may be accessed or obtained.

Adding links to Library resources and content can help your students access scholarly resources for their writing, research, and other projects. You can also add a link to the Library's Ask a Librarian page, to make it easy for students to get research help by Instant Messenger (IM), email, phone, or personal appointment.

"Journal Info": A New Online Resource

Journal publishing policies are very confusing these days for both authors and librarians. Which journal is open access (free access)? Are there alternative journals that do provide open access? Can an author "self-archive" a copy of a manuscript on a local server? Where is the journal home page? Where is the title indexed? And what is its influence in the field?

Journal Info is a new online database that brings to together information on 18,000 journals from a number of other resources into one place. Developed by Lund University Libraries with support from National Library of Sweden, Journal Info contains the following information:

• Basic journal information including publisher, homepage, subject and initial publication date
• Reader accessibility
  o Is it open access
  o Does it allow self-archiving
  o Is it a hybrid
  o Alternative journals with Open Access
• Quality
  o Where it is indexed
  o Eigenfactor for the journal and article influence, a new type of impact factor
  o FRIDA score --created by Norwegian faculty
  o Link to the ISI impact factor
  
  For librarians there is also cost information such as the subscription price per article, per citation and the profit status of the publishers.
