This page is designed to serve as a brief guide or pathfinder to sources in the history of medicine. Everything cited can be found in the Medical Center Library. Please assume the material is located in the History of Medicine Collections unless otherwise noted. In some instances other copies are available in other libraries on campus. Consult the online catalog for those call numbers and locations. This guide is organized by broad categories with brief annotations where necessary for explanation. The works cited in each category are intended to be representative and not exhaustive. A printable PDF version of this guide is also available.

- HISTLINE: The National Library of Medicine's online database in history of medicine and related sciences. Covers all languages, chronological periods, and geographic areas from 1964 to present. Formerly (1964-1993) available in print as the "Bibliography of the History of Medicine" (Ref Z6661 M616). Has entries for monographs, journal articles, theses, book chapters, and individual chapters in the published proceedings of symposia and congresses. HISTLINE no longer exists as a discrete database. Journal citations can be searched in PubMed and monograph citations can be searched in LOCATOR plus (see directions below).

- All catalogs for the Wellcome Library for the History and Understanding of Medicine are available online via their Website. This includes the entries previously in the "Subject Catalog of the History of Medicine and Related Sciences" as well as the "Current Work in the History of Medicine." Print versions for both bibliographies of periodical articles, through 1980 and 1999 respectively, are available in the History of Medicine Reading Room (Ref Z921 W45s 1980).
