Bartisch Exhibit
Images from the Ophthalmodouleia Das ist Augendienst
The illustrations in the Ophthalmodouleia were made from woodcuts based on Georg Bartisch's own drawings. The images in this exhibit are only a sample of the 107 images photographed by Dr. George O. D. Rosenwasser.

Images of Bartisch's Ophthalmology

Bartisch identified seven types of cataracts: white, gray, blue, green, yellow, black, and anterior. Most were treated by making an incision near the pupil and cutting the cataract with a knife (like those pictured below).

Strabismic eyes

Pictures to the right show a few examples of the masks Bartisch prescribed for people with crossed eyes or squints.

Holes were cut in the masks for patients to look through to train the eyes into the proper position.
