Photographing images from materials in the History of Medicine Collections
is done on a case-by-case basis, with permission largely determined by the
physical condition of the original item. Depending on the intended use of
the reproduction, the client may be required to complete our "Agreement for Commercial Use of Reproductions" or the "Agreement for Nonprofit Use of Reproductions."
If the photograph is to be used in a publication or on a Website,
a user fee may be required.
Images can be requested through interlibrary loan. If the request is approved,
the image will be supplied as a digital file transmitted via email, once the
permission form is completed. Please allow 30 days from receipt to process your request.
Photography is allowed under the following conditions:
- You must use your own personal camera or hire a photographer
- An appointment is required
- The session must be supervised by the curator
- You must use existing lighting in the reading room (flash may be used with permission)
The multimedia room is available by appointment for professional
photographers and others experienced in using a copy stand.
The client is responsible for assuming all costs and for seeking any necessary
copyright permission.
