History of Medicine can provide a number of services to assist patrons with their information needs. Due to the nature of historical research and the materials in our collections, we advise you to come to the Library to work with History of Medicine staff. We offer limited services to off-site researchers by email, telephone, fax, or regular mail. If further assistance is needed, we will be glad to provide the names of independent researchers who offer fee-based services.

Reference services include:

• Instruction in conducting research in medical history
• Assistance in selecting appropriate research materials
• Planned and impromptu tours of the Trent Room, reading room, and herb garden
• Answers to queries about items in the collections
• Location and retrieval of historical images

The use of some rare and valuable materials will require staff assistance. We recommend making an appointment in advance of your visit.
